Why wearing SPF is important?
Sun is basically the source of life on Earth, It radiates light and heat which makes life possible. Plants need sunlight to grow, Humans need sunlight as a source of Vitamin D for body functions. Both humans and other animals depend on plants for food and oxygen. Without the Sun, the Earth will freeze to death. For all of its remarkable benefits and qualities sun can be hazardous to life on Earth and that's the reason sunscreen/sunblock came into existence to cancel out the harmful effects of the sun on Human nature.

The Sun produces natural energy in form of ULTRA-VIOLET (UV) rays and can damage the skin deeply. There are 2 types of UV rays that reach the Earth and cause a different types of damage to the Human Skin. These rays are separated from each other by different Wavelengths
1. UVA
2. UVB
UVA or Ultra-violet A can cause premature aging of the skin, Carcinogenesis, and our tanning response.
UVB or Ultra-violet B causes the skin to burn.
These UV rays have different wavelengths and are absorbed by chromophores present in the body. The chromophores are Hemoglobin, which gives blood red color, and melanin, which gives pigment to the skin.

Sunscreen contains Zinc Oxides or Titanium oxide that reflect the sunlight and act as a physical barrier to protect the skin. Because of the presence of these oxides, the sunscreen left a white cast, but in recent advancements, in nanotechnology, the particle size of these oxides is reduced to nano-size to minimize the white cast. Some sunscreens absorb these rays and are transparent when applied to the skin.
SPF stands for Sun Protection Factor and sunscreens appear with SPF 15, 30, 50, and so on. The number indicates how long your skin will be protected from burning. That's the reason it is recommended to re-apply sunscreen throughout the day.
